17th Century French Religious Tapestry 

A period 17th Century French Aubusson New Testament Religious tapestry, horizontally oriented, size 9'3"H x 18'4"W.

This tapestry depicts the Birth of Jesus Christ, with the Christ Child at left in the arms of Virgin Mary, with a halo over her head, being visited by the Three Wise Men at right, who offer their supplications and their gifts. Further right, other people appear with camels and more gifts, and are held back by a man with a shield.

With weaver's mark and Aubusson town mark. Wool with silk inlay. In very good condition.

Part of a set of three interrelated tapestries, telling the story of the Life and Death of Jesus Christ, items # 32303 - 32305.
