Description: | Antique 17th Century Flemish Tapestry with the Liberal Arts & Areas of Knowledge An antique 17th century Flemish genre tapestry panel, size 13'1 H x 9'0 W, depicting the Liberal Arts and the various areas of knowledge and learning. Various regal figures are envisioned by each of the many branches of knowledge, written in Latin, which include music, logic, mathematics, memory, and rationality. A fascinating piece that speaks to the significance of learning and scholarship, and does so by incorporating figures of different types, possibly from different periods, and also an angelic cupid at right, raising the importance of these areas of human knowledge to a supernatural level. The central scene is enclosed within a scrolling foliate outer border. Handwoven, and composed of wool with silk inlay. Condition is very good, but with some areas of restoration, chiefly in the lower border. An exciting wall hanging, and a great choice for a home, a school, a house of worship, or a business space. An amazing value, and a piece that's surely a conversation starter! Hanging:
