An antique Persian Meshed carpet, size 23'4" x 13'5".  This fine hand-knotted wool carpet emanates from the weaving region of Meshed in Persia, woven circa 1900-1910.  This carpet is characterized by a repeating foliate design in the central field, with a dense mix of finely rendered flowerheads and floral sprays.  The outer border offers a refreshingly relaxed mix of scrolling floral motifs, and provides a delightful counterpoint to the maximalist mix of flowerheads in the central pane.  The end result is a dazzling display of the ability of master weavers from over 100 years ago to execute incredibly intricate floral designs with fine articulation, with precise symmetry, and with abundant charm.  In excellent condition.  100% wool pile on a cotton foundation.
