An antique Persian Lavar Kerman carpet, size 26'5" x 14'1".  This fine hand-knotted wool carpet emanates from the weaving region of Kerman in Persia, woven circa 1890, and represents the "Lavar" style of rug, an older, finer style of rug with short pile and fine articulation of design.  This carpet is characterized by a sumptuous palmette design repeating throughout the primary field, intermixed with a dense mix of finely rendered floral motifs.  The outer border reciprocates the colors and elegant floral patterns of the primary field, and expands upon it with additional botanical and tree motifs.  The end result is a magnificent carpet with a grand scale of design, comprised of a multitude of smaller interconnecting floral elements all meticulously woven by the hand of skilled weavers over 100 years ago.  In excellent condition.  100% wool pile on a cotton foundation.
